Alternate Sailor Suits

Sailor Moon original concept designs.

I first saw this original concept drawing while reading one of the manga volumes of the re-release of the Sailor Moon manga. It was really exciting for me to see these designs. I don't think all the suits are the most flattering, but I love how it gives individuality to each character. When I looked for the image online, I found it in color. I don't know if the coloring was done by the author Naoko Takeuchi or a fan, but I went with it for designing my grids.

I found sprites of the sailor soldiers from the Sega Genesis game Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. I chose the poses I like, keeping in mind I wanted the front of the sailor suit to be pretty visible. There were some awesome poses to choose from, but many of them would cover up key parts of the suits. In the images above I show the original sprites and my alterations. I use a combination of GIMP and paint when redesigning and griding my projects.

Sailor Mercury

I really like Sailor Mercury's original suit design.

Sailor Moon
I didn't realize until after I was done with Sailor Moon, but I had meant for the green gem on her compact to be on the left side!

Sailor Mars

Originally I was going to use purple for the highlights in her hair, but decided to go with blue instead. All the black on Sailor Mars proved hard to melt. I also had more bead blowouts than I'm used to getting.
